It was quite helpful in the verbal/spelling, math, general science and biology sections, but I found the chemistry section quite weak. The chemistry section was too concise and required that I seek other means of educational material for chemistry. However, I would recommend this book for those seeking to brush up on their math. Some math review topics that this book contains are: How to add fractions (both simple fractions and mixed numbers) as well as subtracting, multiplying and dividing fractions. It also explains decimals, percentages, averages, adding and subtracting length units, calculating elapsed time, algebra, arithmetic with positive and negative numbers, geometry, perimeters and areas--basically all the math requirements you will need to know for a PSB Health Occupations Aptitude Entrance Exam. This book also contains practice exams that, in many ways, reflect questions asked on Health Occupations Aptitude Entrance exams. What I found quite useful is that the book didn't simply give you the answers to the questions of its practice exams, it also EXPLAINED the answer to the questions and sometimes it even explained why the other choices were not the correct answers. Some cons about this book: 1) As mentioned above, the chemistry section is too concise (at least it was for me). Example, it didn't explain in detail Electron configuration/valence shells of atoms, and how many electrons can each shell/orbital hold, etc. 2) This book didn't have a review section of the Nonverbal aspect that's in most Health Occupations Entrance exams. 3) You CAN'T use the cd-rom unless you have a PC. I have a mac, thus, the cd-rom was useless. Overall, for the price, it's actually worth it. BUT keep in mind that this review book is basically a guide to the topics that you will need to know, and at times, you will need to seek other, more detailed educational materials because ONE book cannot possibly contain all the information, explanations, etc., of so many subjects. 7 of 7 people found the following review helpful. A Very Big Help! By ColtsFanXLI I got this book with about a month to study for the HOBET exam. This book has different sections to study from (math, biology, reading comprehension, etc.). It even has specific study plans depending on how much time you have to study before the exam; this explains which sections to focus on. It was a big help, and so was the cd-rom with practice exams. I would definitely recommend this book. 3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Not what I was expecting By P. Czapla I purchased this book for my upcoming Health Occupations Aptitude Exam (HOAE) and unfortunately this book just does not go enough into depth about any given subject. At the end of each chapter there is a list of other sources for study. If I wanted other sources, I would have purchased them instead of this study guide. I was hoping for a bit more of a comprehensive review. Nonetheless, I think you will find that much of the core of what you need to know is discussed in this book in basic detail. There are 3 practice exams to help you gauge your progress. See all 17 customer reviews...
