About the Author Marty Walker has practiced nursing for the past 30 years at the vocational nursing level as a registered nurse, and at the master’s level. Marty began her nursing career as a licensed practical nurse, receiving her vocational education certificate from Atlantic Vocational School in Pompano Beach, Florida in 1979. In 1982, she earned the associate degree in nursing from Broward Community College in Davie, Florida. She worked for more than 10 years as a staff nurse in telemetry, critical care, and emergency nursing before completing a bachelor of science degree in nursing from Florida International University in Miami, Florida. In 1995, she began teaching medical-surgical nursing at Ivy Tech State College in Sellersburg, Indiana. After relocating to Miami, Marty accepted a position as Nurse Clinical Educator for three cardiac units at Jackson Memorial Hospital. She attained a Master’s in Nursing Science in Nursing Education from Barry University in Miami Shores, Florida in 2003. Marty’s love of teaching led her to Mercy Hospital’s School of Practical Nursing, along with adjunct teaching positions at Florida International University and Barry University. In Miami, Marty added pediatrics to her teaching expertise. She taught medical-surgical nursing for a short time at Pensacola Junior College in Pensacola, Florida before accepting a full-time associate professor position at Northwest Florida State College, where she currently teaches in the RN-BSN program as well as the associate degree nursing program. Marty’s expertise also includes test construction. She has led the faculty at NWF State College in improving the success rates of students enrolled in the program as well as their success on the NCLEX-RN. Marty’s versatility extends to her clinical practice as she has recently completed the family nurse practitioner certificate program at The University of South Alabama in Mobile, Alabama. Marty volunteers as a clinic nurse and the director of nursing services for the Crossroads Medical Center Clinic in Valparaiso, Florida. Linda Whitenton began a 38-year nursing career in 1967 as a nursing assistant in Paducah, Kentucky. Following her graduation from Murray State University’s BSN program in 1970, she practiced in mental health, pediatrics, and medical-surgical nursing. Teaching nursing assistants, emergency medical technicians, and unit secretaries in a Mississippi hospital cemented her love for teaching in her role as a hospital in-service education director in the early 1970s. She accepted her first teaching position at Northeast Mississippi Community College in 1975. While at NEMC, she taught fundamentals, medical-surgical nursing, management, and psychiatric nursing and served as assistant director and director of the program for seven years. In 1977, Linda earned her master’s of science degree in nursing at the Mississippi University for Women, which also afforded her the family nurse clinician credential. In 1987, she relocated to Florida and accepted a position as associate director of nursing for the associate degree nursing program at St. Petersburg College in St. Petersburg. While at SPC, she designed curriculum for more than 1,000 employees of the Pinellas County EMS, taught LPN transitional students at night, and practiced part time at the Bayfront Medical Center Trauma Center. During her 27 years of teaching, Linda continued to practice in emergency nursing, urological nursing, and as a nurse clinician. Linda also earned 30 hours of post-masters work in anthropology and educational psychology. In 2004, she returned to clinical practice as the director of nursing/vice president for a Mississippi community hospital. While there, she received a national award for outstanding nursing leadership. She returned to Florida in 2000 to design and direct a new AD nursing program for Northwest Florida State College, formerly Okaloosa-Walton College, the first of five health programs now in place at the college. For the past three years, Linda has served as associate dean of Health Technology, adding administrative oversight for the health programs she launched during her eight-year tenure at NWFSC. She recently retired from the college, receiving the honor of Emeritus Associate Dean and Director of Nursing. Since the early 1990s, Linda has worked with Rinehart and Associates Nursing Review, a nurse-owned company that offers review courses for graduates preparing for their examination to become licensed RNs or LPNs. Linda is a Certified Nurse Educator, CNE, and a member of Sigma Theta Tau International Nursing Society.

Pasternack My niece got her certification the first time she took the exam with the help of this book. Excellent and well worth it. 7 of 7 people found the following review helpful. One of the better review books. By MeLissa The book is really concise. Less fluff is good when you're short on time. Each chapter has 10 review questions with rationales so I found it really helpful to go through the book only twice to be comfortable. I recommend it as a refresher course and as a hardcore study tool because it covers many different topics for the CNA exam. I haven't found any mistakes in rationales or typos like other books either. 9 of 10 people found the following review helpful. CNA Certified Nursing Assistant Exam Cram By Meme I am a retired nurse and I wanted to have my granddaughter start studying before her classes officially started a month away. This is a great book to get a start on abbreviations, healthfield words and meanings, and pictures of positions and equipment used in the care of the ill. The test questions really got her thinking and made my role very easy. Thanks for all the future students who will have success by studying this book also. Gram See all 18 customer reviews...
Coping in Medical School
In this book, Dr. Vishup, in a calming and reassuring voice, teaches the reader the psychological coping skills needed to deal successfully with medical school. There are chapters on a broad variety of topics including building a caring support network; maintaining a sense of individuation and identity; dealing with guilt, anger, and depression; and making full use of intuition and creativity. Above all, this is a practical book, for almost every chapter contains psychological exercises that allow the reader to put the insights Dr. Vishup offers into practice immediately.

By A Customer This book is not really helpful to the average first year medical student trying to get by. It consists of lots of silly activities that you don't even have time to think about as a first year. I had to dig through this book to find anything interesting or useful about coping in medical school. It is not a practical book. If you really want help coping in medical school, take a few nights off a week and go out with friends! The book by the princeton review is much more interesting. See all 1 customer reviews...
How to Write a Winning Personal Statement 3rd ed (How to Write a Winning Personal Statement for Graduate and Professional School)
The personal statement is the single most important part of a graduate school application, and yet very few applicants know how to write one that will gain them admittance to the program of their choice. The third edition of this highly successful book can change all that by showing readers numerous ways to greatly improve their essays.

Nothing Magical, but serves its purpose By A Customer Like just about everyone else that would purchase this book, I bought it to try to get a sense of what the 'personal statement' is supposed to be all about for a graduate school application. It accomplishes its goal. However, I found it very repetitive. The book is divided into three sections. Section one is simply and introduction, section two contains sample essays. Section three contains interviews of Directors of Admissions of (mainly) MBA, Law and Medical Schools, although there is also one or two from other professional graduate programs. Section Two's essays was probably the most helpful as they helped me overcome my writer's block. Section Three said the same thing over and over again - 1. Dont's send "And that's why I want to go to Harvard..." essays to Yale.2. Spell-check and edit thoroughly for readability and grammar3. Follow the page-limits stated4. Personalize it, be natural, make it interesting, and don't write the same generic essay for all schools or try to give the admissions people what you think they are looking for.5. The essays are important and are read by at least three people evaluating the applications. As noted above, I haven't given anything away - the most useful part of the book are the sample essays that illustrate these points. As I read them, I started the process of self-examination which is what the admissions people what to see you doing in this essay. In short, it helps get your creative 'juices' flowing to overcome the writer's block that inevitably accompanies the task of writing these things. I can't compare this to other books of the same variety, but I can say that I was satisfied with this book, and can't imagine that any other book could say something this one dosen't. 31 of 31 people found the following review helpful. Good for MBA essays not for general graduate essays By A Customer This book seems to be most useful for MBA program essays. It lacks information about general graduate school essays, in particular the sciences and humanities. I was a bit disappointed that it focused so intently on business, law, and medical school essays while touting to be a book for graduate school as well. 21 of 22 people found the following review helpful. For about 1 percent of Applicants, if that By CAVEMAN The two stars go in honor of the questions asked early in the book, which do suggest many useful things to include in your statement. Very quickly, however, the book takes a one-way street that only the extreme cases can follow. The example essays include people who have escaped the communist regime of Cuba, been haunted by the Russian KGB, lived in a car, and an Olympic Skier. If you do have an extreme tear-jerker for the academy, buy this book--but that is the only style of essay discussed. If you happen to be among the average applicants, though, and you trying to get an edge, this may not be the right place to look. I am applying to Public Health school, and found more useful info in a book on getting into Law schools. I would suggest checking out the Degree of Difference Series over this book. By Kristens Amazon If anyone has had as much difficulty finding the perfect book as I have, they know whats up. So I literally spent 20 hours of research searching for the PERFECT care plan book. After my exhaustive study, I found this little dream of a book!! So why this one?? I chose this book because it gives you EVERYTHING you need to create an A+++ care plan. It includes disease processes, the nursing diagnosis related to the said medical condition, outcomes, and the best part- it includes both interventions with ALL the scientific rationales in an easy to read and fluent manner that makes writing up those dreaded care plans a breeze!! I would strongly recommend this book due to it's all inclusive style and really mean it when I say "This is the best care plan book ever". I bought the 2nd edition which was way cheaper than the newer version for pennies on the dollar and it is just as good as the one's my friends bought for $50 dollars. It's a must have and can be used for all area's of study as it includes Med Surg, Psych, Peds, and OB sections, so you can literally use it all through school!! I am thrilled and I usually don't leave reviews but I hope you take my word that this book is a MUST HAVE!! :)K.C.BSN Student 6 of 6 people found the following review helpful. Content of book By Amanda This Nursing Care Plan book sucks. I bought this because the reviews were good but I have no idea why! There are limited care plans in here. I thought there would be a wide aray but that's not the case. The diagnoses I had to do weren't even in here for the particular disease process. A better recommendation is "A nursing handbook" by Betty Ackley & Gail Ladwig (8th edition) 6 of 6 people found the following review helpful. Great for nursing students! By A. Powell This book is fantastic for nursing students. In one volume, you have a resource for med/surg, peds, L&D and psych care plans. This makes it an economical and well-rounded textbook choice. The text is well organized and accessible. Each of the four major sections highlights specific medical diagnoses, with information about the pathophysiology of the diagnosis. It details appropriate nursing diagnoses associated with each of the medical diagnoses and includes a wealth of patient education, interventions, important assessments and tests based on the latest evidence-based practice. It also includes measurable outcomes! The book is easy to use. The color coding is simple. The index is complete. And it includes NIC and NOC outcomes and uses NANDA terminology. This book helped me create successful care plans as well as allowing me to more easily carry theory into my clinical practice as a nursing student. I highly recommend it as a resource. Olp Wonderful color pictures and great information to read. I have used it to give teachers and parents information on many condition and how to control/pervent spreading. It is easy to understand information, nothing overly medical so parents and teacher can understand it without needing a medical dictionary close by. 0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. good resource for child care programs By S. Pavelko This is a very good resource for our child care center. We see lots of rashes and other illness and this book helps us talk to parents about signs and symptoms. My only issue with the book is that pictures generally show extreme conditions and often we see the beginning of something. We don't try to diagnose, that's the job of the peditrician, but the book is good for narrowing down our suspicions. This book is on my desk and used multiple times during the week by all the teachers. See all 5 customer reviews...
